The City of Darebin has indicated a massive crackdown on cars, proposing to remove all-day parking in streets within 400 metres of train stations on the Mernda and Hurstbridge line. Car parks will not be affected, however parking near these 11 stations between Northcote and Reservoir will now only be able for two-hours. This is to deter people from driving their car to the train station and leaving them there all day. As a plan to make Melbourne the premier bicycle city of Australia, Lord Mayor Sally Capp has released a 10-year draft transport strategy. The plan is to expand the six kilometres of protected bike lanes to more than 50 kilometres by the year 2030; creating more space for pedestrians and cyclists in the CBD.
