SecureCloak - Preventing tomorrows thefts, today

In 2017 Victoria was named Australia’s car theft capital with over 15,000 cars stolen, on average more than 40 per day. This accounted for almost 30% of Australia’s car thefts that year. Burglars are becoming bolder and more driven to succeed in their criminal activities. Even though these events aren’t as frequent as they used to be, they still tend be a part of everyday life. Imagine you are the owner of the Mercedes Benz dealership in Toorak. In the showroom you have several cars on display with a combined value of hu  ...read more

Bunbury Ram Raiders Strike Again

A Good Guys store in Bunbury, WA was ram raided last week. Nearby police officers attempted to confront the suspects, but the thieves ran away. Several Bunbury businesses were hit by ram raids last year, so it makes sense for stores like The Good Guys to be protected by bollards. Unfortunately, the bollards were uprooted by the impact and the roller door was caved in, causing massive damage to the storefront. While the bollards themselves are intact, the foundations were ripped out of the ground, with sand spilling out of the holes. This incident shows the importance o  ...read more

CCTV vision shows the pair arriving at the main street branch in Tongala at around 3 AM to demolish windows and door frames at the branch’s entrance. A spate of recent robberies in the area have caused alarm around Shepparton and the local community of Tongala, which now claims the only ATM in town has been ripped out.   ...read more

Pieces Missing in Recent Lego Thefts

Using a crow bar to pry open the entrance of an independent Lego retailer last night, two thieves forced entry into the premises before emptying and destroying its shelves- and getting away with almost $30,000 worth of Lego. With only three weeks until Christmas, it’s a shame this small business must suffer before what is probably their busiest business period of the year. While it’s unknown if the two robberies are connected, it’s clear the thieves knew what they were looking for, as only valuable and collectable items were targeted durin  ...read more

Store Profits Up In Smoke

Two thieves used a sledge hammer and angle grinder to break into a Mount Martha IGA earlier this year. One thief used an angle grinder to break through a locked cigarette cabinet while the other filled a trolley with cigarettes. Only four days later, the same IGA was struck again, but this time the thieves removed the entire cabinet and loaded it into their getaway vehicle. Rod, the owner of the IGA, says he’s spent over $12,000 this year on replacing windows to stop the black-market thieves. But the real cost can be for the owners- often small, family businesses   ...read more

Protective Eyes in the Skies

New South Wales is aiming for safety with more drones flying over its beaches. The drones will help lifeguards spot dangers in the water which will result in earlier action and more lives saved. The push for increased drone presence comes after a trial of drone assistance on the NSW north coast in 2017 and this movement is expected to continue in the coming years. Using new and adaptive forms of technology to improve public safety is becoming more and more common. And it’s something that we really support here at NJM Group.
