Directing the Flow, Pedestrians and Protection.

With the Federal election coming up on Saturday the 18th of May, everyone is busy figuring out where they are to vote and how many people they’ll have to stand with to get the voting done. With over 16,000,000 people lining up to vote, time and effort will ultimately need to be put into organising and structuring polling areas. One effective way to assist in this is the introduction of temporary T-top Hi-Vis Orange PVC bollards to structure pedestrians into neat and flowing lines. These T-Top Hi-Vis Orange PVC bollards can be used as non-permanent crowd control bar  ...read more

'Little Streets', Larger Space

As a plan to make Melbourne the premier bicycle city of Australia, Lord Mayor Sally Capp has released a 10-year draft transport strategy. The plan is to expand the six kilometres of protected bike lanes to more than 50 kilometres by the year 2030; creating more space for pedestrians and cyclists in the CBD. The council will remove some of the city’s off-street parking, clearing the equivalent of 30 MCGs or 20 Burke St Malls of space. Our esteemed ‘Little Streets’ of Melbourne’s CBD (Little Collins, Little Burke, Little Lonsdale, Little La   ...read more

Peace and Public Safety this Anzac Day

On Anzac Day we commemorate and honour those who have fought to protect Australia. It is important that we remember those who came before us and celebrate with veterans and families of these soldiers, upholding the Australian spirit of federation. The remembrance service is held all over Australia and New Zealand, a National Day for honouring and being mindful of the peace we are so lucky to have. Many of the cities across Australia and New Zealand are very multicultural; providing diversity, exciting combinations of culture, food and traditions. Australians and New Zealanders  ...read more

The Rising Shield of the Centurion

Australian Bollards is now offering the Centurion Road Blocker as a solution for Hostile Vehicle Mitigation. This heavy-duty security device has been crash-tested using a 6.8-ton truck going at 80kph, remaining intact and operational after the impact. The surface-mounted road blocker is another great innovation to bring the utility of a retractable HVM device with the convenience of avoiding a deep excavation process. Unlike sliding bollards, the Centurion Road Blocker does not have anything sticking out while it is retracted, making it blend in more with the environment. Whe  ...read more

Meeting the Standards of Security

Australian Bollards provides a range of products for HVM (Hostile Vehicle Mitigation). The strongest ones can stop a truck, and in order to prove it, the bollard designs are crash-tested using a special vehicle towing rig. PAS 68 and IWA 14-1 are industry standards for testing how bollards hold up against vehicle impacts. The documents lay out the procedure for testing the bollards, including specifying vehicle mass and impact velocity. The strongest bollards are typically those with a lot of sub-surface mass, like the tip of an iceberg sticking out of the ocean. However,  ...read more

Hydraulic Bollards In Action

Australian Bollards has recently installed four hydraulic bollards for a client to protect their horticultural business. When activated, these bollards rise from the ground like mighty oaks, only much faster. Layered protection is always a good idea. The combination of a sliding gate and bollards deters both pedestrians and vehicles, and a truck crashing through the gate will be losing speed even before it hits the bollards. Since both systems are automatic, it’s easy to toggle them at the same time, or separately to only let pedestrians through. A  ...read more

Window Dressing Attracts Carlton Ram-Raiders

Two thieves used a storm for cover while they ram-raided a clothing store in Carlton over the weekend. CCTV vision shows a Mazda sedan reversing through the Elgin Street glass shopfront then realigning to the curb while the second burglar runs inside to remove the cash register and steal a bag of clothes. Motorists are seen driving past seemingly unaware that a robbery is taking place. The ease in which these thieves gained entry to the premises and the short amount of time it took for them to complete it raises alar  ...read more
