A Green Solution to Traffic Congestion

The City of Darebin has indicated a massive crackdown on cars, proposing to remove all-day parking in streets within 400 metres of train stations on the Mernda and Hurstbridge line. Car parks will not be affected, however parking near these 11 stations between Northcote and Reservoir will now only be able for two-hours. This is to deter people from driving their car to the train station and leaving them there all day. The $19 billion plan will feature 200km/h trains, much like those found in Europe. The aim is to reduce trip times throughout Victoria’s regional areas - a Geelong to Melbourne trip would take only 32 minutes after the upgrades.
