King of Bollards on Lygon Street

After being closed for three years of construction work, the iconic King & Godfree grocery store is reopening as a three-level Italian market set to dominate the Melbourne food scene.
The King & Godfree building showcases the amazing variety of Italian cuisine with a selection of venues including the K&G Deli & Espresso Bar, Agostino & Cellar Bar, Pidapipo Gelateria and Johnny’s Green Room rooftop bar. Johnny’s is a nod to a popular bar from the ‘70s and takes advantage of the building’s height to deliver a stunning view of the Melbourne skyline.
Architects Herbert & Mason ensured that the building was refurbished in a way that combines the traditional Italian style with modern elements. Hutchinson Builders was contracted for construction work, including the installation of a security feature provided by Australian Bollards.
To protect King & Godfree Lane from vehicles, several semi-automatic bollards have been installed. They can be raised or lowered in three to five seconds to control vehicle access. In addition to their protective value, these stylish bollards also complement the modernized building.
