International counter-terrorism initiative happening in Melbourne

The Australian authorities are on high alert as the coming festive season is approaching, bringing with it a heightened terror risk.
In response, Victoria Police is hosting an international counter-terrorism forum, the first one to be held outside the United States.
‘We know that responding to terrorism is not something a single organisation, a single government or a single country can manage in isolation, that’s why we’re all here, as partners, to jointly confront this threat,’ assistant commissioner Shane Patton said.
Since September 2014, when the national threat level in Australia increased to ‘probable’, Victoria has seen five terror attacks.
There is no doubt the situation has changed according to Immigration and Border Protection Minister Peter Dutton. He believes authorities must keep evolving with the threat.
'Standing still in the current environment adds up to going backwards,' Mr Dutton said.
Australian Bollards agrees with the approach. We believe high-risk situations must be responded to appropriately. We fully support the decision for Victoria Police to host the international counter-terrorism forum as Australians have the right to feel safe over the festive season while enjoying their time with family and friends.
Victorian Police have taken steps to provide a satisfying level of protection during the holidays at key locations in Melbourne such as Federation Square, Flinders Street Station and the Bourke Street Mall. Their plan includes installing security cameras and loudspeakers to inform the public in an emergency situation as well as employing extra police on the ground.
Another way security could be enhanced would be through installing bollards, creating a barrier between pedestrians and traffic, preventing vehicle-borne attacks.
Australian Bollards provide VBIED bollards that take a soft approach to hard security. They can be tailored to serve multiple purposes and blend in with the environment. One example are the heavy duty planters we have installed in front of Media House, protecting visitors and staff as well as decorating the facade.
Protecting the high risk areas during the holiday season is a top priority for the authorities as it should be. Australian Bollards fully support their effort to counter terrorism. It's an effort we would be honored to be part of.
