Etihad Stadium leading the way to better security
by: Australian Bollards on
Etihad Stadium, one of Melbourne’s iconic sports and entertainment venues, has taken steps to improve security at their site, leading the way for other large venues and precincts.
The stadium that plays host to major events such as AFL matches and concerts is located close to modern Dockland restaurants and cafes, making it a popular attraction for tourists and locals alike.
With a capacity to seat more than 55.000 people, security is however an ever pressing concern.
A common security threat today is that of vehicle borne threats such as Vehicle Borne Terrorists (VBT) and Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIED), where attackers use vehicles to ram into pedestrians or force entry in order to detonate a bomb.
One of the easiest ways to mitigate such an attack is by installing vehicle security barriers. VSBs such as bollards allow pedestrians to pass while restricting vehicle access.
That’s why Etihad Stadium approached Australian Bollards for a solution - heavy duty stainless steel bollards - that were installed in front of Gate 7 at the Latrobe Street Foot Bridge. The bollards blend into modern Docklands, providing a soft approach to hard security.
The center bollards are pad lockable to ensure they can be removed in case emergency or service vehicles need to pass, while the rest are fixed.
All of them are VBIED rated which means they are able to withstand high impact collisions with heavy vehicles.
With their new VBIED bollards, Etihad Stadium has made sure no vehicle can force entry or harm patrons. Australian Bollards is proud to have been able to assist them with their security upgrade, and we hope more sporting precincts and entertainment venues will follow their lead.
