Crash Barriers Save Man’s Life

A man walked away unscathed after losing control of his vehicle on the Western Freeway last week between Melton and Bacchus Marsh. Rescue crews who attended the scene of the incident credited the crash barriers, which are designed to avoid head-on and run-off crashes, for saving the man’s life.
The Midland Highway is one of Victoria’s most dangerous country roads, claiming three lives, 10 serious injuries and 19 crashes between 2010-2015. The Victorian Government’s $450 million freeway safety installation rollout will be installed on 20 high-risk rural roads around Victoria and 2000 kms of barriers where needed to reduce the current Victorian yearly road toll.
The Transport Accident Commission’s “Towards Zero” initiative aims to reduce the amount of lives lost on roads around Australia.
