Delivering high frequency trains to Melbourne
by: Australian Bollards on
Valued at $11billion, the Metro Tunnel Project is the largest public transport undertaking in Victorian history.
The State Government has awarded Bombardier, CPB Contractors a $1 billion contract to supply and install new trains and signals as part of the project.
CPB contractors formed over 70 years ago becoming one of the first private firms to work on State Government projects in Victoria.
Since then, they have been delivering some of Australia’s most important and iconic projects.
These include Melbourne’s City Link Tulla widening, Sydney’s M4 widening, major metropolitan rail infrastructure and many more.
It is estimated the CPB Contractors and Bombardier will provide 65 new trains under the package, running along the Sunbury to Cranbourne-Pakenham line.
Bombardier is a Canadian aerospace and transportation company. During its formative years Bombardia specialised in snowmobiles but has expanded to service many areas of the transportation industry since being founded in 1942.
The Rail Systems Alliance (RSA) will provide an integrated rail system over almost 91km of existing operational railroad, alongside Lendlease’s new 9km twin trains.
Following the execution of the Metro Tunnel Project it is anticipated that there will be less waiting time for commuters’ due to the regularity of new trains with the trains running two to three minutes of each other on this new network.
Together, with the state government, we are building a public transport system which the Victorian public will benefit from.
