Car accident intensifies public safety concerns

An 87-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car outside Woolworths in the Lakeview Shopping Centre parking lot in Pattersons Lakes.
The car park has been under heavy scrutiny by the public and the local council for a while now and this incident has intensified public concern.
Carrum & Patterson Lakes Forum founder Cameron Howe said locals had been calling for a revamp of the car park for years.
"The feedback's been very strong and quite clear," he said.
"There needs to be a full assessment, an audit, to understand driver behavior and to see whether we can improve pathways and offer better protection to pedestrians."
The Coles car park across the road got a major safety upgrade when Australian Bollards installed a row of high impact sub-surface mounted bollards.
A safe zone was created in front of Coles, protecting pedestrians and the glass shop front.
This same level of protection can be achieved throughout Lakeview Shopping Centre through strategic bollard installations.
