All Aboard! Hawkstowe Station on Track for Stunning Station Build
by: Australian Bollards on
As part of the Mernda railway extensions project, the Victorian Government has finely selected three stations to undergo a state-of-the-art revamp. In light of this decision; Australian Handrails, an important division of the NJM Group has been contracted to install their high-quality products in the Hawkstowe Station space.
NJM Group has been committed to the Government’s plans to revamp our states transport hubs with the promise to assist in building Hawkstowe Station through their quality handrails and architectural metal works.
The Hawkstowe station build will involve an elevated platform design above the Hawkstowe Parade parkland which is currently inhabiting the land. The Level Crossing Removal Authority’s choice to build Hawkstowe Station is an informative decision, with close proximity to South Morang which is Australia’s fastest growing suburb in the past 10 years.
Australian Handrails has been involved in a vast array of similar projects previously having been contracted by Metro Trains Melbourne to perform their services in areas such as Springvale, Cardinia, Laverton North, Nunawading and Bentleigh Stations. The Southern Cross railway station was also graced with the installation of Australian Handrails illuminated safety handrails, reflecting the focus on safety in Melbourne’s prime transport locations.
With the size and prestige of the project, the contracting of the Australian Handrails team was no surprise, with a rich history of similar projects and an established rapport with one of Australia’s leading engineers in John Holland who is leading the build; it is expected that the project will be performed to the highest quality.
Australian Handrails has gained the insights and experience from other previous partnerships such as collaborations with Arup, McConnell Dowell Constructors, Grimshaw Architects, Coleman Rail and Cox Architecture. Experience in working with such partners has given Australian Handrails a wealth of knowledge when it comes to working on Railway projects.
The aim of the project is to cater for up to 8,000 daily commuters which will ease congestion along Plenty Road. With the stations allowing for up to 2,000 parking spaces, bicycle storage and bus facilities, the project is one of significant standing in the community.
The state-of-the-art revamp will allow Australian Handrails to install several of their safety and aesthetic focused products through a vast array of metal work including handrails, balustrading and staircases.
The work from the Australian Handrails team will coincide with the aim and focus of the Mernda Rail extension project to allow for a modern design that still has rural roots whilst still encompassing all the required safety features. Australian Handrails products aim to increase the productivity and efficiency of the railway station and ease its expected foot traffic.
The Mernda rail extension and the build of Hawkstowe Station was labelled by Premier Andrews as one that would change the lives of these people for the better by connecting Australia’s fastest growing communities to new job opportunities and educational facilities. Australian Handrails is excited to commence services on the project and continue their streak of high quality and well designed products in Melbourne’s most important areas.
